iTomcats – the Tomcat Manager for iPhone

Free Resource

Apache Tomcat plays an important role for Java Enterprise. Most developers and administrators work simultaneously with several Tomcats. This makes it complicated to keep an overview on multiple Tomcat installations. Moreover one needs a lot of time to check up if and how all applications are running.

Out of this came the idea to develop a mobile application for monitoring and management of Tomcat servers – iTomcats. The most important function of this app is the quick answer to the question “Are all servers and applications functioning properly and at what capacity are thy working (users, threads etc.)?” One can also manage all Tomcat servers with iTomcats (e.g. start, stop and restart).

So why would one need this app as every Tomcat already has an integrated Manager? The answer is simple: “To get real-time, immediate, on-the-go information about all servers without having to provide url/username/password-entry for each log-in”. Additionally one can see with just one-click the important status information of servers and applications without having to search for it. This makes it easy to get 24/7 an overview when you’re on the way or just need a quick status-check. iTomcats is available on iTunes.

Which monitoring functions are most important for you? Which additional functions you miss and would like to have on your smart phone? Would you use an “active monitoring” option with status check every N minutes, that will send you a message if there are some problems?
