February is the shortest month of the year but it was nevertheless not a quiet month for Java EE 8! Here is a short recap of some recent activities and relevant updates.

The Java EE 8 platform (JSR 366) schedule has been updated as follow:

  • Public Review: Apr/May 2017
  • Proposed Final Draft: June 2017
  • Final Release: July 2017(!)

The CDI 2.0 Public Review period is almost over, so make sure to provide your feedback to the JSR 365 EG …now!

The JAX-RS 2.1 Early Draft is nearly ready; see here to get a sneak peek. In this draft, the Server-Sent Event API has changed quite a lot. For more details, check here and here (JAX-RS 2.1 m04).

The Bean Validation 2.0 (JSR 380) EG has released an Early Draft. To learn more about BV 2.0, you might want to listen this JBoss Community Asylum episode.

Servlet 4.0 (JSR 369) has successfully passed its renewal ballot and in the meantime, the Servlet EG is making progress towards its Early Draft.

The Security API (JSR 375) EG is also busy preparing its Early Draft.

It was also announced that there is intent to do a JPA Maintenance Release for Java EE 8.

JSF 2.3 and JSON-P 1.1 have now entered the Public Review Ballot period. That means that those 2 specifications are getting very close to being finalized!

Finally, and if you want to contribute, make sure to watch the 2nd Adopt-A-JSR webcast that was recently hosted by the JCP.
