JBoss to Collaborate with Liferay for New Open Source Portal Solution

Today at the Red Hat Summit in Boston, Red Hat, a producer of open-source software for enterprises, and Liferay, Inc., a leading provider of enterprise products, including the open source Liferay Portal, announced their upcoming collaborative effort to offer a combined enterprise open source stack. The two companies plan to deliver an “integrated, comprehensive and open source portal solution that brings together the performance and agility of Liferay Portal and Red Hat JBoss Enterprise Application Platform (EAP).”

“Liferay Portal is a natural fit with our middleware portfolio, and we are pleased to work with their team,”said Mike Piech, vice president of Middleware at Red Hat. “Both companies have a strong commitment to open source and approach the market in similar ways.”

According to a Liferay press release, the collaboration will have the two companies in working together across multiple departments in order to ensure the success of its upcoming product. As a result of the combined solution, customers can expect multiple benefits, including:

  • Coordinated sales team to facilitate the purchasing process.
  • Reliability of a certified Liferay Portal Enterprise Edition and JBoss EAP stack, backed by a Liferay Enterprise Subscription and a Red Hat subscription.
  • Advantages of an open source stack, including transparency, cost and compatibility.
  • Technical benefits from value-adding performance and scalability features to the Liferay Portal + JBoss EAP combination, including modular architecture, smart load balancing technology, centralized configuration management, and a cloud-ready platform.
  • Potential to expand integration with other Red Hat JBoss Middleware products in the near future.

Red Hat’s JBoss is a multi-platform Java EE application server. Created by JBoss and acquired by Red Hat in 2006, the popular middleware targets businesses and, according to the Red Hat website, is ideal for “open hybrid cloud environments.”

Likewise, Liferay,Inc. offers businesses open source portal and collaboration software productsworldwide. Founded in 2004 from the successful release of their Liferay Portal,their current customers include Cisco Systems, Toyota and the United Nations.
