Creating a more open and transparent city government is a top priority for the City of Guelph, Ontario. On Have Your Say Guelph, connected citizens are sharing their ideas for how the city can achieve its goal. Rosalina’s idea is to leverage the small companies getting their start in town by sending city employees to startup offices to observe the culture and bring back tips for how to encourage a “test-and-learn” atmosphere within City Hall. Other ideas – like a workshop to teach residents how to be engaged and contributing citizens – are also being considered.
Congratulations, Rosalina, on being picked for this week’s Idea of the Week!
“Assign ‘Open Government Champions’ within the city to spend time (1-3 months) at a startup in order to immerse themselves in an innovative, test-and-learn culture. This program can act as both recognition and catalyst to changing culture within the city. Guelph has a unique opportunity to do so given its proximity with one of the technology clusters, Waterloo.” – Rosalina
