The significant variation is that the latest version has been updated to a modern design with additional features and many simple and user-friendly interfaces. Also, the new Joomla  3.0 has the exciting feature of being mobile friendly and can be specifically used with any modern devices.

Moreover, there are some additional improvements to the details of Joomla, such as you will notice some new installer when creating Joomla 3.0 install. Should I launch a 2.5 site or a 3.0 site for building a brand new site?

If you want the most stable site that Joomla can offer and/or probably you plan to use many extensions, then launch Joomla 2.5 site. Again, launch a 3.0 site if the extensions are Joomla 3.0 compatible. However, only a few template providers will allow Joomla 3.0 at launching, while most other vendors won’t be ready until days or months after.

Joomla 3.0 template- How do I get it?

Some template companies out there who will be offering Joomla 3.0 template either immediately or right after the release, but you need to ask for the availability. Some vendors have already announced that their templates will be ready right after it has been released, while others don’t.

Are Joomla 2.5 extensions compatible to work with Joomla 3.0?

Extensions that are familiar to Joomla 2.5 will work compatibly with Joomla 3.0 without making any significant changes. Extensions that support Joomla 2.5 and 1.5 will not likely work at once, until they are updated by developers for Joomla 3 compatibility.

To put simply, it actually depend on the extension. The introduction of Joomla versions have made the process comparatively easy for developmental work, however for some extensions it takes some work. To make it sure, let the developers know that you are using their extension t work with Joomla 3.0 and consult with their credentials.

What will be the next after Joomla 3.0?

In the coming 6 to 7 months, Joomla 3.1 is going to be released soon. If you have upgraded your site to Joomla 3.0, you need to upgrade to 3.1 when it will be released using the one-click upgrader. If you’re still with the earliest version, Joomla 2.5, you can wait until Joomla 3.5 and get a direct upgrade.
