Meet New Relic’s Velocity Speakers

We’re busy gearing up for the big Velocity conference in Santa Clara, Calif., later this month, and we’re looking forward to seeing you there. Velocity is all about the chance to “learn from Web performance and DevOps experts,” and we like to think that includes New Relic. To help prove it, we’ve got a full lineup of speakers at the event.

A very fruitful Friday

As previously noted, we’re all over Docker with a presentation at 11:50 a.m. on Friday from Lead Site Reliability Engineers Karl Matthias and Sean Kane. The dynamic duo will delve into their own firsthand experience “Implementing Docker in Production at Scale.” Check out the action in Ballroom E.

Patrick Lightbody, VP of Product Management, New Relic

But that’s only one item in a full slate of New Relic speakers. In the Mission Ballroom at 9:55 a.m. on Friday, Patrick Lightbody, our vice president of product management, will address a critical question: “Great, You’re Now a Software Company. Now What?”

We all know that software is disrupting industry after industry. But that knowledge raises lots of important questions: How do we determine how to invest the scarcest resources in the software economy: developer talent? How do we choose between building new features or reducing technical debt? How much should we focus on Web versus mobile? Patrick will offer some invaluable answers in just 10 minutes of your time.

Next, at 11:50 a.m. on Friday (yes, we know it conflicts with the Docker session, sometimes New Relic can’t be contained in a single room!) you have the chance to catch our director of engineering Ralph Bodenner in Ballroom CD discuss how New Relic is Changing the Laws of Engineering with Pull Requests. In an effort to maintain our culture of openness at New Relic, we turned to the same process to change our culture that we use to change our code: GitHub Pull Requests. This has given us

Finally, at 2:40 p.m. in Ballroom AB, New Relic network engineer Bill Green investigatesThe Curious Case of the Missing Bandwidth. In this live-network case study in using sFlow to improve the end user’s experience with greater end-to-end visibility, Bill will show attendees how collecting network flow data can help solve the mysteries on their own network. Don’t miss this chance to gain practical insight into your everyday problems.
