MindMixer Raises $17 Million to Build Better Communities

Today we officially announced the closing of our $17 million Series C fundraising round. As the excitement buzzing around our water cooler can attest, it’s just one more piece of what has been an amazing puzzle of a year.

So far in 2014, we’ve consolidated our Omaha and Lincoln offices with our Kansas City office, grown our team to 74 individuals with plans to add 40-60 more by the end of the year. We moved into our permanent office at 1735 Baltimore in Kansas City’s Crossroads Arts District, right underneath the TWA rocket. And just last month, we were honored by our peers as the Startup of the Year at the Silicon Prairie News Awards.

This fundraise represents the culmination of these events, and the validation of the four years of work we’ve all put into helping build better communities. It means we’ll be able to continue the important work that we’ve dedicated so much time to. It will allow us to grow our team and scale even faster as we meet demand, but it’s not just about improving current product.

We recognize that civic engagement is by and large still highly fractured and organization-specific. While community organizations are making concerted efforts to better engage their communities, they’re also competing for the same audience – asking the same people to go to four or five different places to participate in the things they care about. We want to explore ways to unify that civic experience and make it easier for people to flex their interests in more than one place, while still allowing organizations to express their individual focuses and achieve their goals.

Needless to say, the fundraise does not mean we’re going to kick back and take it easy. We’ve done our homework, but the test is still coming. Big things are on the horizon, and like any small company, we know that we will have to keep working harder than anyone else to achieve our goals and top a growing industry.

None of what has happened this year, or what is yet to come, would have been possible without the guidance and support of our investors, led by Dundee Venture Capital, and including the Govtech Fund and others. For your help and encouragement, we can’t thank you enough.

And we can’t wait for what’s next.
