Last week, MySQL 5.7 was released, and according to Oracle, it's a big improvement. Specifically, Oracle claims doubled speed compared to MySQL 5.6, and tripled speed compared to MySQL 5.5. Other changes include:

  • Enhanced InnoDB buffer pool and metadata locking
  • performance and throughput improvements for Solid State Disks
  • enhancements to MySQL semi-synchronous replication performance
  • Performance Schema improvements
  • Optimizer enhancements
  • Improved security
