The past few weeks have had some interesting activity across the organization while we prepare for the release of Node.js v10 LTS while juggling security releases, dependency updates, and an upcoming Foundation-sponsored event.

Check out some of what's happened in the Node.js GitHub organization over the past week:

What's New in the Node.js Project

  • A proposal staging process has been introduced in the Bootstrap Committee for a merged foundation, working toward solidifying how we approach evolving the suggestions and work around a joint foundation between the Node.js Foundation and the JS Foundation.
  • There's currently a discussion around automating centralization of data from various sources within the Node.js project. There are over half a dozen repositories that contain various forms of distinct data that are generally useful... why not surface it to everyone?
  • There's currently a discussion to retire the io.js website and redirect it to the Node.js website. It will be gone but never forgotten.
  • Flavio Copes submitted a PR to the Website Redesign repository, adding several dozen guides to the content that's intended to be the basis for the new Guides section on the official Node.js website. Thank you, Flavio!
  • Significant work has gone into a refined module resolver spec for ES Modules in Node.js and is close to being merged into the internal fork working on ESM.
  • Planning for the next Node.js Collaborator's Summit in Berlin (tagging along with JSConf EU) is already underway! If you have spare time/cycles to help out and are in the area, help is always appreciated.

Awesome Articles, Links, and Resources

  • The Begin master plan, discussing the journey to their current offerings around Serverless technologies, from the team at Begin.
  • Coder.com - effectively, VS Code in the Cloud. A++ replacement if you relied on Cloud9.
  • Bluestream, from the team at Bustle, is a collection of streams utilities that work well with promises and async/await.
  • ZEIT Now 2 is the ZEIT team's push towards an all serverless model.
  • The Linux Foundation, along with a suite of partners, announced the intent to form a GraphQL Foundation.

One Last Thing...

If you find any awesome Node.js or JavaScript things over the next week (or beyond!), never hesitate to reach out to us on Twitter at @NodeSource to share and get it included in Need to Node — our DMs are open if you don't want to share publicly!
