Happy New Year! The year is off to a great start and we are excited to see what 2015 will bring to the networking space. I have a few predictions of my own (think policy and disaggregation) that were recently published in Network World. What are your networking predictions for 2015? Below are our top picks for networking stories this week.

In this week’s PlexxiTube #FBF (Flashback Friday) video of the week, Dan Backman interviews VMworld 2014 attendees and asks what they’ve done to help their networks accommodate to Big Data.

Network World: SDN, data center predictions for 2015
By Jim Duffy
The predictions for data center and SDN in 2015 are still rolling in. Technology Business Research says software will pervade the data center while start-up Plexxi believes policy and disaggregation will be front and center. Here’s the link to TBR’s 2015 Data Center Predictions. Some of the more interesting prognostications in it are the acceleration of SDN in the enterprise and the ability of hyperconvergence to converge.

Network Computing: 10 SDN Startups On The Cutting Edge
By Marcia Savage
Small companies flush with VC money have led the way in software-defined networking. Here are 10 of the hottest startups in the SDN space.

NoJitter: Making Real Networks From Virtual Things
By Tom Nolle
Virtual switches and routers, when combined with user- and service-specific tunneling, could boost network agility. Talk about virtualization is so pervasive these days that you have to wonder if anything is real anymore. Network architects in particular must be asking this question, because at the root of every network strategy is the reality that you have to sell services and carry traffic.

Information Age: 2015’s most critical information technology trends
By Ben Rossi
Technology was dominated by several prevalent trends in 2014 – from the Internet of Things (IoT) and big data to the cloud and cyber security, it seems like there was barely a day without one of these trends creeping up in the news. Now we have entered 2015, these trends are still at the forefront of discussion, with many exciting opportunities, innovations and iterations being predicted for this year.

SDxCentral: SDx Trends to Watch in 2015
By Craig Matsumoto
This list of SDx trends (software-defined “everything,” that is) to watch in 2015 is entirely subjective, meaning I’m basing it more on hope than on data. Whether these things happen, or whether they even become interesting, is up to the real world. But from where I sit, it’s looking like 2015 will be full of fireworks for software-defined infrastructure, including SDN, NFV, open source software, and white box networking. Each of these picks might sound obvious, but hopefully the angles and motivations behind them are a little bit surprising. Feel free to leave comments to let me know what I forgot, or what I got wrong.
