JetBrains has announced the GA release of its new bug and issue tracking software, YouTrack 1.0.  YouTrack is a web-based, keyboard-centric bug tracker with issue handling focused into only two controls, a search box and a command window.  JetBrains has simplified YouTrack's controls in order to make an issue tracker that is easier to work with, and less time consuming.

Here are the highlights of YouTrack 1.0:

  • AJAX-based UI
  • Use issue reporting hotkey "Alt+Ins" from anywhere in the program
  • Query-based search with completion and highlighting
  • Intuitive commands for batch operations on selected issues
  • Import existing projects from JIRA 3.x
  • Integration with LDAP, OpenID, and JetBrains TeamCity

YouTrack also can run as a standalone Java process or be deployed in popular application servers, including Tomcat 6+, Geronimo, Jetty, Resin, and JBoss.

YouTrack is the first mature product developed using JetBrains' own Meta Programming System MPS.  Following JetBrains' TeamCity continuous integration and build management server, YouTrack is another tool aimed at penetrating the teamwork solutions market.  JetBrains is currently promoting YouTrack 1.0 with a 50% discount until the end of 2009.

YouTrack 1.0 has two editions:

Professional Edition: For small to medium teams; limited to 10 projects and 20 user accounts, and doesn’t support LDAP authentication; priced at $300 ($150 before 2010).

Enterprise Edition: For large teams; full functionality for unlimited projects and users; priced at $1,200 ($600 before 2010).

You can download a free, two month trial of YouTrack here.  Demos and documentation for YouTrack 1.0 can be found here.
