New Relic is announcing the availability of two awesome new features. Thanks to our SaaS model, our customers have immediate access to these new features by just logging into their New Relic account. That’s right — no upgrades, no patches, no reboots, nada. You gotta love it! When you login today, I think you’re going to be blown away by both of these features. So let’s get a quick introduction to each.

App Speed Index

You think your app is fast. You’ve been making improvements and seeing 5 – 10% gains in performance. High fives all around for the great achievements. But you’re probably still scratching your head wondering whether or not your web site or app is actually fast. You know it’s faster than it was before. But is it FAST. Good question. And before today an impossible one to answer.

Enter the App Speed Index. The App Speed Index leverages our Big Data to provide Big Insight to our customers. New Relic collects over 55 billion performance metrics and monitors 1.5 billion page loads on behalf of our 25,000 customers and their 500,000 application instances. All of that data equates to 3.5 terabytes of new data collected, stored and analyzed each day.

ASI Ranks

With the App Speed Index, our customers will be able to classify their application into a Peer Group of similar applications. For example, we have Peer Groups for eCommerce, SaaS, Gaming, and Consumer Internet applications. Once your app is classified, you’ll find out your percentile rank within your peer group for end user and application response times, error rates, and application availability.

With this information in hand, you’ll know exactly how fast your app is and how much faster it has to be to become a New Relic top performer. We’ve also created a living infographic that ranks the peer groups by performance and availability, and lists the fastest applications monitored by New Relic! We update the infographic daily — so make sure to bookmark the page and check back often!

Custom Dashboards
Have you ever wanted to see Network I/O graphs and End User Response Time graphs on the same dashboard?  What about some custom business metrics and application response time? It could be revealing to see how shopping cart abandonment relates to changes in application performance. My favorite, is a single Custom Dashboard that has my End User Response time charts for all of my apps. With one quick glance, I can see the health of all my apps on a single dashboard!  AWESOME!

Custom Dashboard Grid

With Custom Dashboards you can build any dashboard with any data that tickles your fancy.  And the greatest part about it: No Coding Required! That’s right, with Custom Dashboards all you have to do is click and pick, drag and drop, or instant copy an existing New Relic graph and boom — you’ve got a Custom Dashboard. This feature is only available to our Pro customers. So if you’re not currently a Pro customer, upgrade today to get access to Custom Dashboards. Learn more about Custom Dashboards by reading the blog post written by the engineer who created this amazing feature.

We hope you enjoy these new features. As always, we look forward to your feedback and suggestions on how we can continue to make New Relic awesome!
