1. Set your goals
Ask yourself what you want to get out of the conference. Want to become a Jenkins expert? Need to find a way to overcome your DevOps and software delivery obstacles? Looking for a way to present a DevOps proposal to your executive team? All of these goals can be achieved at Jenkins World – you just need to pick the right track. The show features six different tracks under the topics of Jenkins, DevOps and DevOps Leadership. There are 60+ sessions, so having a goal in mind will help you target the sessions most informative for you.
2. Create your schedule
You don’t want to miss the chance to meet your DevOps hero! Go through the sessions carefully and plan out your schedule in advance. Having a hard time choosing? There are a few sessions that we’d highly recommend you consider:
3. Plan to network
Take advantage of the expertise of your peers at the show and network, network, network! Jenkins World provides plenty of opportunities to interact with fellow attendees outside of sessions and workshops. Stay in shape by attending a special yoga class on August 30 or join the running tour on August 31. If there is someone in particular you’re excited to meet at the show, send them a note on LinkedIn and plan to meet for coffee during a break or grab a drink at the end of the day. There are hundreds of connections you can make – so why not plan ahead?
4. Check out exhibitors
During meal breaks, you’ll have the opportunity to poke around the sponsor expo hall. There will be dozens of great vendors ready to discuss the latest and greatest offerings and, of course, there will be swag (aka, wardrobe building opportunities!). Exhibitors will include BlazeMeter, Fugue, JFrog, Sauce Labs, Sonatype and many more. Select a handful of vendors you want to learn more about and find their booths. Don’t forget to stop by the CloudBees booth to take a picture with the famous Jenkins butler.
5. Be social
Make sure you’re on top of your Twitter game. For real-time updates during the show, make sure you follow @CloudBees and @JenkinsCI on Twitter and follow along with #JenkinsWorld to hear what other attendees are learning in their sessions. If someone tweets a quote or video that is particularly interesting to you, tweet back at them and meet up to discuss. Everyone will be looking to learn from each other.
6. See the city
As much fun as you’ll have at the show, there is plenty to do in the wonderful city of San Francisco. If you have an extra day to enjoy the city, book tickets to go to Alcatraz. These tours often sell out in advance, so plan now! Or if you only have a few hours to spare, take a walk along Fisherman’s Wharf and see the famous sea lions lounging on the pier.
7. Don’t forget to eat
While there will be breakfast and lunch provided at Jenkins World, there are plenty of excellent restaurants to try for dinner. If you don’t want to venture too far from the venue, try The Cavalier or Roy’s Restaurant. If you’re feeling adventurous, make your way over to Zazie or Nopa.
