Docker, an open-source app portability container, has been a hot new project over the past month.  The latest news from the project is that they will be partnering with Red Hat to bring the project's Linux kernel version in line with the kernel used by Red Hat's OpenShift PaaS.  Specifically, this means compatibility with Red Hat Enterprise Linux and Fedora.

The Docker philosophy of extreme deployment convenience fits nicely with OpenShift's similar style of cloud deployment.  If you take a look at the announcement, you'll learn about the specific technical challenges that the two teams are going to work on, which may result in more useful open-source code drops for all of us.  This is good news for cloud portability.
