Brendan Hardy, PinnedURL

Interview with Brendan Hardy, Founder and CEO of PinnedURL.

Tell us more about PinnedURL API
PinnedURL is a new company providing link redirects and URL shortening services to the vertical marketing and pay-for-performance online marketing sectors.

What API(s) does PinnedURL offer today?
Currently, PinnedURL offers our URL shortening service. However, in the future we plan to extend our API to support additional functions that will support the pay-for-performance online marketing sector.

When did PinnedURL realized that it needed an API?
We decided to expose the API to the developer community when we recognized the limited reach our own marketing efforts could achieve. We wanted to leverage the potential power of exponential exposure that an engage development community would bring if they also could provide the service to their customers, or use it to develop new applications or tools for their specific needs.

What recommendations and tips would you give to a company planning to launch an API?
Really know who your target audience is and how they are most likely to use the API. Choose a great API management platform like 3scale to take care of the day-to-day functions of managing your API business. For us, the development of the PinnedURL API grew out of our own need to more effectively reach our customers in our own pay-for-performance marketing efforts. However, we anticipate that the development community will think of other cool ways that it can be implemented too.

Why and how are you using 3scale API Management Platform today?
We are currently using 3scale to manage our API key generation and authentication. We are also using their CMS to host our Developer Portal and API Documentation. 3scale has proven to be an effective and easy to configure API management platform that more than meets our needs. We look forward to the benefits 3scale will deliver as they continue to grow.

What benefits have you seen/are you expecting from your API program?
For us, the main benefit of using the 3scale API Management Platform was the speed in which we were able to bring to market our API product. Because of the ease of configuration and deployment we were able to spend considerably more time delivering a quality service to our customers, rather than spending development time on administration, management and deployment functions that didn’t add value to the core product.

What is your vision for your API?
Our vision is to provide the developer community with an easy to use tool that allows them to implement URL shortening services for their own development and to give them the ability to extend the service to their customers. We plan to extend the API features further by year-end.

3scale customer PinnedURL API

PinnedURL provides link redirection services with link management and “click” analytics. PinnedURL allows customers to shorten long URLs into PinnedURLs for use on social networking sites like Facebook, Twitter and Pinterest. PinnedURL also accommodates customization of shortened URLs to provide increased brand recognition and improved online marketing performance.
