Sept 14, 2015-- OCI (Object Computing, Inc.) and Pivotal are collaborating to ensure continuity of support for the Grails community and Pivotal clients using Grails technology.  As part of this new partnership, Pivotal will continue as the first line of support for its customers, and OCI will provide troubleshooting and software engineering services for those clients requiring more in-depth technical support with Grails.

Grails is a powerful web framework aimed at multiplying developers’ productivity, in large part due to its Convention-over-Configuration approach, sensible defaults, and opinionated APIs. It integrates smoothly with the JVM, allowing immediate productivity while providing powerful features, including integrated ORM (Object-Relational Mapping), Domain-Specific Languages, run-time and compile-time meta-programming and asynchronous programming.

Grails was developed with the Groovy programming language for the Java runtime platform, and was originally supported by G2One. Since the acquisition of G2One by SpringSource in 2008, SpringSource, VMware, and subsequently Pivotal collectively sponsored the Groovy and Grails projects.

“I will continue to spend all my time on the Open Source side of the project, while OCI continues to provide Grails users a hassle-free OCI deployment experience, through its products and services,” said Grails co-founder Graeme Rocher, who joined OCI in April and was a co-founder of G2One. “As I team up with OCI, we will see many more contributions from OCI developers to the Grails core,” said Rocher. At OCI, Rocher will continue leading the development of the enormously popular Open Source Grails framework, a role he performed previously at Pivotal and VMware.

“Pivotal clients and the Grails community may rest assured that the framework is moving ahead with full momentum, and Graeme, myself, and the rest of the OCI Grails Team are here to support Grails users and the community at large,” said Jeff Scott Brown, senior member of the core Grails team, who also joined OCI in April.

“Pivotal is excited that Grails has found its home at OCI,” said James Bayer, Pivotal’s Senior Director of Product Management. “This is the right move for the future of Grails. With this move, Grails remains in the hands of its original architects and contributors.”
