Productivity, Exploration, Diagnostics, and Collaboration: Visual Studio 2013

On Thursday I had the pleasure of delivering a session at the High-Tech Mizpe Ha-Yamim event for decision makers (VP R&Ds, CTOs, and CIOs) in the beautiful and tranquil Safed/Rosh-Pina area. My talk focused on Visual Studio 2013 and how it can make developers’ lives better by improving productivity and collaboration, making it easier to diagnose difficult problems in development and production environments, and helping explore large amounts of existing code.

I built the talk around four core areas: productivity, exploration, diagnostics, and collaboration. The demos included using IntelliTrace with Windows Azure Cloud Services, using Visual Studio’s .gcdump support with Azure Web Sites, exploring a complex solution with Dependency Graph and Code Map, using Visual Studio Online “Monaco” for live code editing in the browser, and collaborating with TFS Online’s Team Room feature. I only had around 35 minutes due to unexpected schedule changes, so you can find the slides below and explore them at your own pace.

It’s been a great event, so thanks everyone for coming, and I’m looking forward to next year! As always, if you’re looking for more developer- or decision maker-oriented talks, the upcoming  Sela Developer Practice (June 29 – July 3) is going to be a great place to be.
