I recently had the opportunity to send a few questions over to Sacha Labourey, CEO of CloudBees, ahead of the upcoming DeOps World | Jenkins World conferences to learn a little bit more about what's been going on with Cloudbees and what we can expect to see at the show.
Hope you enjoy the interview!
DZone has attended the past couple of Jenkins World events in North America, seeing announcements like the release of the Blue Ocean UX update back in 2016 and CloudBees DevOptics solution last year. Can we expect to see any similar big announcements or new releases this year?
We already made two big announcements when we released the agenda for DevOps World | Jenkins World. The first being the name change from Jenkins World to DevOps World | Jenkins World to be more inclusive of the evolution of the software development industry beyond just our Jenkins-core; and the second, adding the additional conference in Nice, France in order to reach the global community of DevOps Practitioners.
Each year we strive to make DevOps World | Jenkins World bigger and better than the year before, which includes sharing our latest news and innovations. With this year’s conference theme being “TRANSFORM,” we will be showcasing ways organizations are transforming software delivery, adopting DevOps and returning business value to their organization from DevOps initiatives. With the tremendous growth in DevOps adoption, we want to highlight our contributions as industry leaders and provide insight for attendees to better optimize their DevOps transformations.
How much can you let us know ahead of time?
For those attending DevOps World | Jenkins World in San Francisco, our keynotes on Tuesday, September 18 will share the announcements from both CloudBees and the Jenkins project. While we don’t want to give away too much information, I can tell you that there will be plenty of exciting news coming out of DevOps World | Jenkins World from CloudBees, our partners and the Jenkins community.
There will be news around the growing trend of "as-code,” collaboration between solutions and the Jenkins community and serverless capabilities. Our goal with all our announcements is to demonstrate how enterprises can adopt modern technology and infrastructure automation processes for successful DevOps implementation.
As far as Jenkins World goes, what would you suggest as the must-attend talk at the show?
There are over 70 sessions in San Francisco this year so it’s hard to choose just one! We are excited to host Dr. Nicole Forsgren, co-founder, CEO and chief scientist at DevOps Research and Assessment (DORA) as one of our keynotes this year. In addition to her keynote, The Data Behind DevOps: What Does it Take to Be a High Performer?, which will cover insights into the key leadership, technical, architectural and product capabilities that drive these outcomes, she will also be hosting a session, Leading Through Change, that will explore the aspects of leadership that drive successful outcomes - I highly recommend attending both.
Additionally, there will be a variety of industry experts covering everything from security, pipeline automation and containers to DevOps adoption and continuous delivery best practices. Here are a few of my recommendations:
DevSecOps: The Missing Link - Rob Stroud, chief product officer, XebiaLabs, will share market trends, tips, and techniques to incorporate security into the complete DevOps lifecycle.
Apply Lean Principles to Accelerate Agile + DevOps - Chris Condo, senior analyst at Forrester, will present market trends and data that back up these observations.
Taming the Beast: Using Data to Improve Jenkins Pipeline - Jeff Pierce of GoDaddy will explore the lessons from early attempts at monitoring, best practices and how he built a Jenkins plugin to monitor pipelines, gathering the data needed to tame the beast.
Bumps, Bruises, and Bandaids: Real-World Lessons from Practitioners- In this panel, DevOps industry practitioners from Medallia, Red Hat, Intuit, Electronic Arts and American Airlines will share nitty-gritty details of their DevOps stumbles, the lessons they learned as a result and how they were able to course correct.
Stay tuned for part 2 of this interview where Sacha will be joined by Jenkins Community Evangelist Tyler Croy to answer more specifics about CloudBees' strategies for the future and where Jenkins is headed.
