Two years ago, Raspberry Pi released the Model B to the warm reception of tinkerers and gadget enthusiasts everywhere. In a lot of ways, the Raspberry Pi Model B introduced programming to a new generation of tech-heads and helped to spawn the Internet of Things revolution.

Today, the Raspberry Pi Foundation released a new model, called the B+.

Here's a release video from the Raspberry Pi Foundation:

The B+ has the same application processor as the previous model, and the same 512 MB of RAM, but with the following improvements:

  • A 40-pin GPIO (up from 26)
  • 4 USB 2.0 ports (that's 2 more)
  • A MicroSD slot
  • Reduced power consumption
  • Better audio
  • New form factor with mounting holes

Here are the specs (click to enlarge):

And here's the centerfold (click to enlarge):

For those dedicated to the previous model, the Foundation promises that the Model B will stay in production as long as there is demand for it.

For more information, read the release blog post here.
