Redis Labs announced today a new sharding feature designed to help developers scale the size and throughput of Redis datasets without a loss in latency. According to Redis Labs' press release on the new feature, this sharding technology enables a few interesting features:

  • Developers will have many more requests per second out of the box - from around 90,000 requests to over one million
  • Developers can distribute datasets across shards using RegEx rules - no need to change the current design of the application
  • Developers can manage their Redis dataset and scale for size and throughput with minimal overhead
  • No functionality will be lost from existing Redis clients or open source Redis Cluster APIs
It looks like an interesting new feature and a pretty major performance boost. Check out Redis Labs for more details, or for more thoughts on Redis in general, take a look at our recent interview with Redis Labs' Chief Developer Advocate, Itamar Haber.
