It's been a busy few weeks for Salesforce. First they released their new Social.com marketing product. This was closely followed by the release of Salesforce Communities, both of which were on the back of strong financial results.
The company has continued the run of news, however, with the acquisition of Clipboard. Clipboard is a social bookmarking service to help users save rich web content across multiple devices.
Clipboard made the following statement on their homepage
We have some bittersweet news. We are extremely happy to announce that salesforce.com has signed an agreement to acquire Clipboard, allowing us to pursue our mission of saving and sharing the Web on a much larger scale. But at the same time we’re also sad to see this stage of our adventure come to an end, especially since it means that our relationship with you, our users, will irreversibly change. As a result of this news, the Clipboard service at clipboard.com will be discontinued on June 30, 2013.
The deal is reputed to be around the $10-20 million mark. All but one of Clipboard's five person team will move across to Salesforce, but they will be shutting down Clipboard as an independent service this summer, with the functionality being integrated into Salesforce products.
