Last week Salesforce announced that they were buying social bookmarking company Clipboard to allow users to share rich media across devices.
They have further improved their functionality in this key area this week with the release of new file sharing facilities on their Chatter enterprise social tool.
The new feature is called Files for Chatter Mobile and lets users share files with other people on the move using their iOS device.
The development is a direct response to industry research revealing the increasing amount of time we spend on mobile devices in the workplace.
The Files for Chatter Mobile service will allow users to locate any file from within their Salesforce environment. It brings the kind of functionality that users have grown to love with services such as Dropbox.
Once files are uploaded to the system, users can assign it to specific projects or segments to allow other users to locate and interact with it.
Michael Peachey, Salesforce’s Senior Director of Solutions Marketing, believes that files are the lifeblood of any organisation.
Files ”convey critical information for every deal won, every marketing campaign launched, and every service question answered.” he said.
It marks a welcome improvement to the Salesforce suite of tools, and allows it to close the gap on rival offerings from Oracle and Netsuite, which offer good interaction with the Box file sharing service.
Initially the service is only available on iOS, but an Android version is in development and will be released soon.
