In Search of the 10X Developer

There was a very interesting section in Aaron Hurst's article "Unlocking the 10X Proffesional" on the LinkedIn blog. Hiring managers have seen it time and time again.  You hire two developers with the same background and qualifications, yet one of them is 4, 6, or even 10 times more productive than the other.  Why?

I think that a lot of developers, and people in other professions, scoff at this "10X" idea because they're not at that point yet.  The idea feels very threatening that if "1X" workers just worked harder or figured out the perfect productivity formula, "1X" people could be like that too, but they're simply not trying hard enough.

Well, this all is up for debate, and the issue is certainly more complex than just being more or less productive (quality is an issue too), but I really wanted to focus on the section of the blog that focuses on "chunking theory" (It's the first large blockquote).  This concept is supposedly the key to unlocking major productivity gains.

Have a look  and share your thoughts.  I'd like to hear them...
