Newton, the latest version of OpenStack, released this week. Newton is the 14th version of OpenStack, and the OpenStack Foundation has said that most notably this release improves user experience for container cluster management and networking, in addition to scalability and resiliency. Projects like Ironic, Cinder, Neutron, and Trove will receive updates to improved high-availability functionality.
How to Write a Nova Filter Scheduler for Trove | OpenStack Superuser
Time Warner Cable’s Matt Fischer instructed OpenStack users on how to use Nova to schedule instances on OpenStack Trove. He described how to use special Trove flavors, set image metadata and a Nova scheduler, write your own scheduler, and finally, how to execute deployment.
Neutron’s Role Evolves in OpenStack Networks | Computer Weekly
Andre Kindness and Lauren Nelson discussed networking in OpenStack and its corresponding OpenStack project, Neutron. While both Kindness and Nelson acknowledged the networking component of the open source project has lagged in the past, Neutron’s success has ultimately emerged due to the evolution of the larger platform. Neutron has not been a barrier to adoption among Fortune 100 firms but requires much work in the future with the help of a strong core team.
OpenStack Drives Major Changes for Software | Tech Spark
The Tech Spark blog recapped highlights from the first ever OpenStack Days Bristol in the United Kingdom. Richard Haigh of Paddy Power Betfair gave the opening keynote and discussed how OpenStack has completely changed how the company develops and delivers their applications. With the Newton release this week, the event stressed how OpenStack is evolving and especially showing its progress in the enterprise.
