If you follow what we call football in the UK or soccer as it is known in the US and other parts of the world you will probably have heard of David Beckham. He was a very successful football player who played for the UK football team Manchester United in his early career and L.A. Galaxy in the latter part of his career. A number of years ago I watched a TV programme where David Beckham was being interviewed and one of the things he said that he did to become a better footballer was to practice. Every spare moment. He would take the football outside and practice against a wall or with some friends.

Now if you are a SOHO developer then you might think that agile practices are irrelevant to you. I would disagree.

For example TDD. You do not need a team for this and you can dive straight in. But where do you start. Well a good place to start could be with book like Test Driven Development (The Addison-Wesley Signature Series) which goes into some of the fundamentals of TDD and how they can applied.

If you are specifically a WordPress developer then Pippin Williamson has recently been publishing a series of posts about Unit Testing with WordPress. If you haven’t read it why not take a look.

However you do it the important thing is to get started. If you never start then you will never practice. As with anything it takes time to get the balance right with TDD, and by starting using a techinique you can get improve your skill.

After all practices make perfect right?
