Today Sun Microsytems announced the start of the Java VisualVM(tm) Blogging Contest. Check out this free tool, blog about it and you could win $500! Designed for both production and development time use, Java VisualVM enhances the capability of monitoring and performance analysis for the Java SE platform.

Java VisualVM is a FREE visual tool integrating several commandline JDK tools and lightweight profiling capabilities. Use it both during development and with live apps to profile memory consumption, display thread dumps, browse heap dumps, analyze core dumps and more. We are so sure you will love this little-known tool that we want you to try it out and blog about it. Simply use Java VisualVM, blog about it, and you could win a $500 Amex gift certificate!   Learn more about the contest here.

Not sure what to write? Let the others know what do you think about Java VisualVM, how it helped you with your development, or how you created a Java VisualVM plugin! JavaLobby Editor Geertjan Wielenga wrote a nice overview of VisualVM previously. Here are other ideas:

  * Success story how Java VisualVM helped you to solve setup or performance problems
  * Tutorial on how to solve a problem (for example, a memory leak) with Java VisualVM
  * Tutorial on how to write a Java VisualVM plugin
  * Comparison of the Java VisualVM with a similar tool

Java VisualVM is a free tool that is a part of the Java JDK, and it also an open source project, hosted at http://visualvm.dev.java.net. Download the source and join the VisualVM community!
