In response to accelerated release cycles, a new set of testing capabilities is now required to deliver quality at speed. This is why there is a shake-up in the testing tools landscape—and a new leader has emerged in the just released Gartner Magic Quadrant for Software Test Automation.
It’s not every year that “software testing” hits the headlines across publications such as Forbes, Fortune, and Reuters.
But these are no ordinary times for software testing. Agile and DevOps, which are designed to disrupt development, have also thrown software testing into turmoil—causing a shake-up in the software testing tools industry. This is evident by the string of software testing tool company acquisitions, spin-merges, and funding rounds that ended up dominating software testing news throughout 2017.
From Selenium to “spin-merges,” here’s a look back at the top software testing headlines from the past year:
Microsoft open sourced the Visual Studio Test Platform (VS Test), which is used to run tests in many languages, collect diagnostic data, and report the results.
Tricentis, known for helping enterprises achieve 90% test automation rates through their Continuous Testing platform, raised $165 million in Series B financing from Insight Venture Partners.
The survey, conducted by Dimensional Research, reveals more desire to speed up build deployment times as well as a clear stagnation in the speed of fixing identified bugs.
