Releasing the new version of GitHub Issues and the Deployment API is a step in the right direction. I am aware of the fact that there are a lot of projects using GitHub Issues as main issue tracker and even more just trying it.

I will show you now three great approaches to turn it into a “real boy”. Grab a coffee and enjoy the read.

Forgive Manuel: He’s from Barcelona

This simple task, most probably from the famous Fawlty Towers, is one of the first things I’ve noticed when I visited overv.io.

Overv.io Screen

They claim they can turn your Gihub Issues into a super-machine by allowing you to have one place from which you can manage multiple projects and to tune in with high customization options, smart overview mode, live reporting and better management. These are the things that are now missing in the core product.

Since they are in beta, you need to ask them for permission to try it by yourself. Click here to file an issue in order to proceed.

Solve GitHub Issues faster with visual feedback

Usersnap’s team announced a couple of days ago their integration with GitHub Issues. Using their visual feedback platform you can save up to 70% time for almost every web issue and there is a proof actually on their website

In short, they offer you to close the communication gap between your client and you and/or within the web project team by using visual annotated screenshots + meta information, attached to every issue.

According to them, the integration will bring designers, developers and project managers on the same page. And this is also one of the core problems in the web development nowadays.

GitHub Issues integration with Usersnap

It works on public and private repos. If you need more, you can start using their web app, together with GitHub Issues to use their advanced Javascript recorder — read more about it on this great article from Mozilla Hacks

I am always hungry for more github …waffles

The last tool to complete my little collection is Waffle

They insist they can turn your GitHub Issues into … a real (Agile) project management system. Just connect Waffle with a repo and start working.

If you are not familiar with Agile methodology, you may feel a little confused in the beginning, but after a couple of minutes you will be ready to rock.

Waffle.io board

Here is an example board. You can combine several repos, but there are some limitations, that can be found here. I’ve tried it, but it didn’t work out well for me.

Actually Waffle can act as a gate for not-so-tech-savvy users to GitHub Issues. They don’t have to use command line tools, but Waffle interface to do their work.

GitHub Issues

I think that GitHub Issues is a great and easy-to-use product and with some addons it can be a really powerful system. When combined with the GitHub tools and methodology it has the power to make the whole software world better, not just the open source one.

Thanks for your time.

Desert

For desert I will offer you to read this great article: How We Use GitHub Issues To Organize a Project, that has inspired me to write this one ☺
