The wait is over! On behalf of the Vaadin team, I’m happy to announce that the most important update in the history of Vaadin is ready!

Vaadin 10 is a platform with two main parts: a set of HTML web components and a Java framework — Vaadin Flow. There are also productivity tools (such as the visual Vaadin Designer) and a set of starters to quickly bootstrap new projects.

Vaadin Flow, the next generation of our Java web framework, honors the philosophy of previous versions (build web UIs with Java) and adds more modularity and an Element API for DOM manipulation from server-side Java. In previous versions, you’ll find APIs for routing, data binding, and validation. The client side is no longer based on GWT but in the new Element API that doesn’t require any widgetset compilation. Here’s a version of the famous “Hello, World” application implemented with Vaadin Flow:

@Route("hello-world")
public class MainView extends VerticalLayout {

    public MainView() {
        TextField textField = new TextField("Enter your name");

        Button button = new Button("Click me", event ->
                add(new Label("Hello, " + textField.getValue())));

        add(textField, button);
    }
}

Vaadin 10 also comes with the new Lumo theme. It allows you to quickly customize the look and feel of your applications, using CSS properties that, again, don't require any compilation step (there's not even a need to restart your server to see these changes).

If you are not a Java developer, you can still take advantage of Vaadin 10 components. For the first time in the history of Vaadin, UI components are available as web components that you can use in any HTML document with any framework or even with no framework at all. Here’s an example:

<html>
<head>
    <link rel="import" href="bower_components/vaadin-button/vaadin-button.html" />
</head>
<body>
    <vaadin-button onclick='alert("Hello, World")'>Click me</vaadin-button>
</body>
</html>

Vaadin 10 offers a simplified development lifecycle and a more powerful feature set. You can find more information at vaadin.com.
