From posting photos on Instagram, videos on Snapchat, or Emojis on text messages, it cannot be denied that the way in which we communicate has become increasingly more visual. And it's not just personal; the prevalence of visual communication also extends to the workplace, with 76 percent of American workers admitting that they have used emojis in work emails.
The same study revealed that 81 percent of American workers find it difficult to convey emotion such as frustration, disappointment, and urgency, all of which are essential components to working collaboratively. When teams begin communicating these ideas visually, however, there is a better chance of the message getting a warmer reception. After all, an image can provide more context and tone to a message than text often can, leaving less open to interpretation.
So, would it surprise you to learn that visual communication tools are on the rise? The introduction of social media into the mainstream has changed the way humans are communicating around the world, and much of it is visual. According to a 2012 study by ROI Research found that 35 percent of people enjoy social media posts from friends that involve photos and 44 percent of people are more likely to engage with brands on social media if they use pictures more than words.
Researchers have discovered that 65 percent of people are visual learners. Visuals create a speedier method of communication that written and verbal methods cannot. As it turns out, the brain can process images and videos 60,000 times faster than text, making image-based communication incredibly valuable.

Capture Screenshots to Provide Visual Feedback
It is said that a picture is worth 1,000 words, and that is exactly what you get when you use screenshots to provide feedback during the testing process. Instead of figuring out the right way to explain errors you've found during the QA process, a screenshot of your browser allows developers to see exactly what you see. This can be useful for providing feedback on a variety of projects, from web design and development to sales and marketing content, and is especially helpful for team members who aren't tech-savvy, as it's easy to use.
Record Videos for Better Clarity Across Teams
Sometimes a still photo simply isn't a powerful enough visual tool to get a point across, which is why having the ability to record video as part of the feedback process can be a powerful visual communication tool. Since giving and receiving feedback can be challenging when you solely depend on text, having a video to provide to developers can leave less open to interpretation and make sure everyone is on the same page when it comes to changes that have to be made.
Communicate Effectively With Audio and Visual Annotation Tools
In addition to being able to take a photo or video of your screen, having the ability to provide annotated visual feedback directly can be an effective and efficient way to communicate with other members of your team. Audio/visual annotation tools allow users to pinpoint specific parts of a screenshot and add notes for developers so that they know exactly what and where something has to be changed.
