VMWare dumps Zimbra

OK maybe the title is a little harsh but there's no other real way to put this (at least it gained your attention). Imagine what the technology press would say if IBM dumped Notes, or Microsoft dumped Exchange.

Fair enough, Zimbra does not have a huge market share – that is, unless you are an organisation following a Open Source first policy.
So Zimbra is now on their third owner in as many years.
First Yahoo, who divested it in 2010 and was picked up by VMWare. 2013 has now seen VMWare sell it to a company called Telligen.
The interesting thing is that Telligen only provides cloud based solutions and their media release on the acquisition focuses upon cloud cloud and cloud...(See http://telligent.com/company/news/b/teamblog/archive/2013/07/15/the-future-of-collaboration-starts-today-telligent-acquires-zimbra-from-vmware.aspx)
Any client would now be seriously questioning the direction being taken with their investment, especially the high proportion of on premise installations that make up their client base.
