I commonly hear the argument: "Android phones are more popular (greater market share), but iPhone users actually buy stuff."  Well, where does that leave Windows Phone.  I don't know about app sales and e-commerce, but Smaato, a mobile ad optimization platform, recently published their quarterly data on mobile ad click through rates.  Check out the quote below on how they get their performance parameters, and then check out the graphs:

"The performance parameters in the Smaato Mobile Advertising Index are based on over 40.000 registered publishers in the third quarter of 2011 and over 70 connected ad networks delivering mobile advertising across 230 countries."  -- Smaato

It's interesting news because it reminds us that there are so many advantages and disadvantages to consider when picking a mobile platform to start developing on.  This info tells us that Windows Phone is possibly easier to monetize through advertising.  Of course, you're always better off if you can develop for all of the major platforms.
