Hey!
I am very sorry to hear about your poor experience using STS and would like to apologize for this. For someone who is working on the STS team I feel deeply sorry about your frustration.
I would love to hear more details about your problems and issues while using STS. I am sure we can improve and fix those issues - once we know more about them. NullPointerException or IllegalArgumentException should be logged and show up in the Error Log view. Filing those as bugs in https://issuetracker.springsource.com/browse/STS would be great. If you have steps how to reproduce those errors, even better.
In the case Eclipse/STS is stuck and seems to build the workspace forever, taking a few thread dumps (using jps and jstack) could provide interesting insights and might point to the underlying issues.
As you mentioned, the issues with the Gradle tooling are already solved and available as an update.
The errors when moving over the relaunch button should also be logged to the Error Log view and it would be very interesting to take a look at those stack traces.
Again, I am sorry for your bad experience and would love to hear back from you with some more details about those errors. Shipping the next release with those issues being fixed would be great.
Thanks a lot for your feedback and patience.
