Hey Erin, go right away and translate it. Leave a link when you do.

You are completely right! I'll try to update the info about Lambda Layers and as far as VPC goes, I should have made it more clear that you should only ditch them when possible without compromising any private information or sensible resources.

Hey Sadie, thanks for the kind words. Hit me up on twitter @johndemian and we'll talk.

On a personal note, I love AWS and I 100% agree that there is a good reason why 70% of the market goes to them. The entire AWS Ecosystem is better suited for developers and you pretty much get anything you might need.

Good observation. With serverless you need to be aware what you want and where you are going.
Serverless, like anything else is not one size fits all kind of deal. There's no one thing that will work in every situation. My point is that you need to know all your options in order to make the right decision that works for your particular needs.

I'll start with the last thing you mentioned. Big companies are big because they are successful. Now most succsfull antrepereneur will tell you that to scale a business successfully you need to cut unnecessary costs. Before serverless they were using ec2 machines and they saved so much that their development team only accepts suggestions if they involve serverless. You are not telling me that coca cola is dumb for looking at a cost effective solution, right?
I don't have too Google because I have actual data from clients that made the switch to serverless. One of them went from 10k to $400 a month. Read more here https://dashbird.io/blog/saving-money-switching-serverless/
As for your comparison of serverless with a vps I find it juvenile to be honest. Api deployed on aws are scaling better than on any other environment, especially on a vps that shares resources with other clients. It's like comparing apples to oranges. One is for small websites and projects where aws Lambda(the biggest faas provider) is for bigger applications that need scaling, speed and security.
Serverless is not for every one, people who grew up working with PHP can find it hard to wrap their head around a new paradigm fo programming, something that serverless requires. While the tradional servers will always have its advantages, serverless has many others that I'd be habby to tell you about but I need to cut this comment short.
But I'm always looking for things to change my mind so if you have some articles to point to something else please share them.

Hey buddy, I'd love to get a few references that would backup your claims. From everything I've seen thus far, serverless when done right, is cheaper and scale like no other. Companies like Coca-Cola North America had cut cost by 60% after switching to serverless and there are hundreds of examples out there with companies that saved thousands of dollars a month.
But I'd appreciate any links you could share that can back your claim.
