A few weeks ago I got a late invite to speak at the Cloud Native London meetup and of course, jumped at the chance. They were hosting their January 2023 event and lost one of their speakers, so I was more than happy to pop in for a chat.

CloudNativeLon imageThey have 7,000+ members and are "the official Cloud Native Computing Foundation (CNCF) Meetup group dedicated to building a strong, open, diverse developer community around the Cloud Native platform and technologies in London."

You can also find them on their own Slack channel, so feel free to drop in for a quick chat if you like.

Now, on to the event and the talk I'm going to share: it took place on Wednesday, January 11, 2023, in London. Below you can find the agenda for the evening, the slides I presented, and the original abstract for my talk. There are also links to the meetup home page and other follow-on information like an eventual link to the recorded session.Live shot from the event floor right before I went on stage

Session Agenda and Description

Below is the published agenda for the evening:

Welcome to our January Cloud Native London meetup, our first of 2023! Join us in person to hear from three great speakers and network with your fellow techies over tasty food and drinks, or alternatively chat and follow along on Youtube!

  • 6:00 Pizza and drinks
  • 6:30 Welcome
  • 6:45 Aaron East, esynergy (Talk TBC)
  • 7:15 3 Pitfalls Everyone Should Avoid with Cloud Native Data (Eric D. Schabell, Chronosphere.io)
  • 7:45 Break
  • 8:00 An ARMful of clusters (Carlos Arilla, Giant Swarm)
  • 8:30 Wrap up

For completeness, here is the meetup session abstract:

The daily hype is all around you. From cloud-native, multi-cloud, to hybrid cloud, this is the path to your digital future. The choices you make as a developer do not preclude the daily work of enhancing your customer's experience and agile delivery of your applications.

With all this delivery and infrastructure, there is a lot of data generated when engaging with any cloud experience. Regulatory and compliance pressures force us to store audit and observability data. Let us take you on a journey, looking closely at the decisions you are making as a developer delivering and dealing with monitoring your applications. Join us for an hour of power, where real customer experiences are used to highlight the three top lessons learned as their developers transitioned their data needs into cloud-native environments. Understanding the pitfalls around the collection, storage, and maintenance of your cloud data can mean the difference between bankruptcy and success with our cloud-native strategy.

Session Recording and Slide Presentation

A recording was made of a live streaming channel they use, with my talk starting a bit down the recording (link starting at my talk):

This was a really fun and sharp audience. I really enjoyed speaking for this meetup and meeting everyone at the event. Thanks to those that attended and to those that were online with the live stream.

I'll be back in the fall with another session already scheduled, so see all you Cloud Native Londoners then!
