The Internet of Things (IoT) industry is blooming in diverse sectors, but the energy industry is getting more focus and popularity.  Also, IoT devices are synced with software to collect and exchange data with other devices and systems over the Internet. Devices of IoT are enabled with numerous apps in diverse industries, including energy. 

In the energy sector, it can be used to enhance efficiency, reduce costs, and enhance sustainability. For example, IoT devices are used to monitor and optimize energy consumption in factories, buildings, and transportation systems. This further leads to significant energy savings. It can also facilitate the integration system of many renewable energy sources, such as wind and solar power, into the electricity grid by providing real-time data on energy production and consumption. Furthermore, IoT has many prospects to transform the business world by permitting greater optimization, automation, and control. 

Environmental Impact of IoT

It was already predicted in 1990 that “everything will be connected to everything else.” The growth of the IoT industry has improved connectivity among different devices worldwide. A large number have contributed to reducing energy consumption by converting normal devices to smart-embedded devices. This gives the ability to collect energy data that can be analyzed to boost the efficiency and delivery of environmental resilience. 

IoT smart technology is built to promote sustainable resources by enabling the optimized use of conventional power sources. Furthermore, this also started recycling more products and reducing the amount of carbon footprint waste and emissions. While talking about sustainable devices, there are a few that we use in most of our places, like smart connected devices, from smart homes, smart agriculture, and smart cities, to name a few.

The Future Market of IoT With Energy Market Growth

People can expect a tremendous increase in five years from IoT in energy management. With the advent of many IoT energy management, the market is expected to grow at an exponential rate of 25% and will reach USD 75.3 billion by 2026. 

However, the market growth has introduced some challenges in the compatibility departments. If you face challenges connecting IoT devices with one another in your system, you might have to buy some additional hardware and software to enable communication between those devices. Finding out new ways to make the device compatible with each other is time-consuming and gives problems in energy management. Thus, enabling it with IoT can delay this problem and adopt energy-efficient technology. 

The most important aspect of enabling IoT is the focus on increasing interaction among different applications, systems, and devices. This means each part of IoT must communicate with every device on a plug-and-play basis that won’t need any further configuration of software or hardware. Enabling IoT in energy management can lead to a more reliable, resilient, and sustainable energy system.
